Sympathetic Resonance

Sympathetic Resonance is a physical and acoustic phenomenon where a passive string or vibratory body responds to external vibrations to which it has a harmonic likeness. It is the "Ghost in the Machine" of music and physics—a way for energy to transfer between objects without them ever touching.
Every object has a Resonant Frequency—the natural rate at which it "wants" to vibrate. Sympathetic resonance occurs when a sound wave hits an object that shares its frequency.

The Piano Effect: If you hold down the sustain pedal on a piano (lifting the dampers) and sing a loud "Middle C" into the strings, the "C" strings will begin to vibrate and sing back to you. The other strings (the D's, E's, etc.) remain silent because they are not "in tune" with your voice.

The Harmonic Series: It isn't just the fundamental note that resonates. Because of the Law of Octaves, a low "C" will also cause the "C" an octave higher to vibrate.
Researcher Note:
The "Locus of Control" in Charisma: A person with a strong Logos (spoken word) and a clear "internal frequency" can trigger sympathetic resonance in a crowd. If the audience has the "latent strings" of a certain belief or emotion, the speaker’s frequency will make those strings vibrate. This is the heart of Entrainment.
